How DBpedia can improve custom eCommerce services

Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking a lot about how we can make modern eCommerce systems more intelligent and actually profitable, especially for smaller businesses offering custom eCommerce services.

Most platforms today are still very keyword-based when it comes to search and product discovery. But I feel like there’s a big opportunity here if we start using structured data sources like DBpedia to improve how products, categories, and customer intent are connected.

For example, if we combine semantic data with custom-built eCommerce solutions, it could really help with:

  • Better product recommendations (not just basic “related items”)
  • Smarter search results that actually understand intent
  • More accurate product categorization across large catalogs
  • Even improved conversion rates due to better user experience

From a business point of view, this could directly impact revenue — because better relevance usually means better sales.

I’m curious if anyone here on DBpedia Forum has tried combining linked data or knowledge graphs with eCommerce projects? Especially in custom setups for clients?
Would love to hear real-world experiences or even challenges you faced.
